Job Description:
Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Senior Application Developer/Analyst. The successful candidate serves as a subject matter expert in managing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications, including PeopleSoft, the University's ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). They are responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining systems and solutions by creating, enhancing, and optimizing capabilities across a wide range of applications and systems. The Senior Application Developer/Analyst will play a critical role in the University's process to identify and implement a new ERP strategy focused on improving the student experience.
The Senior Application Developer/Analyst has excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with constituents from front-line staff to campus leadership. They enjoy solving complex problems, identifying creative solutions, and interacting with stakeholders to turn business requirements into technical specifications. The Senior Application Developer/Analyst is expected to work under limited supervision and within a team environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Programming and Development:
- Develop unique approaches to complicated problems and create solutions that may require the integration of disparate systems running on a variety of technical platforms.
- Design, develop, test, maintain, and document solutions created for the University.
- Build customizations and configurations that ensure propagation to upgraded environments.
- Review of existing system and software design and code; make recommendations for developing and integrating new requirements and improving system, code, and maintenance.
- Apply and observe configuration management practices and established development standards.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Gather customer requirements and build solutions using new and/or existing technology/application systems.
- Work as a team member in the development, analysis, and support of enterprise applications including PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
- Work closely with various technical and functional departments in implementing recommendations and/or negotiating proposed solutions.
Projects and Operational Activities:
- Work on items within a defined queue of requests, incidents, problems, and projects for assigned service areas.
- Provide day-to-day applications operational support, including quality assurance activities and necessary documentation for tasks performed.
- Monitor enterprise applications, apply appropriate triage skills to application failures, and take appropriate action to maintain service availability.
- Actively participate, as needed, in ITS projects.
- Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- At least three years of development experience in large relational database systems such as PeopleSoft, Banner, or another ERP environment.
- At least one year of demonstrated programming experience in application development with one or more of the following: Java, JavaScript, PERL, PHP, Python, or ERP development tools.
- Experience effectively translating functional business requirements into relevant technical specifications.
- Experience conducting technical design walk-throughs and peer reviews.
- Experience in organizing work, prioritizing tasks, and managing multiple and changing priorities independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education.

- Experience with analyzing and troubleshooting complex, cross-team applications and integrations.
- Fluency in more than one programming language.
- RESTful API (Application Programming Interface) development experience.
- Experience working in UNIX/Linux environments.
Additional Information:
Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Programmer/Analyst, SL4; $90,000-95,000.

Application Programmer Analyst
Pay Status and Classification: Exempt, Regular Full Time. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Supervisor: Director of Enterprise Applications
Position Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, this position provides software technology support for all enterprise applications at Union College. This involves working with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and analyze business requirements, design, develop, configure and test solutions. Additionally, this role will provide on-going operational support of end user service requests and incidents.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operational Support: Provides operational support for numerous Enterprise Applications including our Finance/Human Resource ERP, Student Information System, Reporting and Integration platforms. Responds to Help Desk tickets in a timely manner by resolving or routing as necessary. Works with functional and technical subject matter experts to troubleshoot and resolve issues. Performs routine system and security administration maintenance activities including patching, upgrades, etc. Maintains process, procedure and system documentation.
- Project Support: Develops understanding of affected business processes. Contributes to planning, analyzing, developing and supporting new solutions.
- Collaboration and Innovation: Provides input on the continuous improvement of services (e.g. integrations, reporting, etc.). Works and partners with all members of the ITS department and campus stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 1-3 years related experience. Combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience will be taken into consideration.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning solutions (e.g. Workday) and Student Information Systems (e.g. Ellucian Colleague).
- Experience with various database structures (i.e. flat-file, relational, object oriented).
- Knowledge of business intelligence and analytics concepts and tools (i.e.ad-hoc query, reporting, analytics).
- Knowledge of data and/or application integration concepts and tools (e.g. REST, SOAP, JSON).
- Experience with scripting languages like SQL, Python, PowerShell, etc.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts (e.g. application security permissions).
- Able to learn new and support new technology including administration and applicable programming languages.
- Able to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor.
- Exceptional verbal, written, analytical and organizational skills as well as attention to detail.

Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $55,715.00. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
